THE RELATIONSHIP OF READING METHODS AND LEARNIN...
60,70 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship of two kinds of reading methods (oral reading and silent reading) and two types of learning styles (visual and auditory) of Taiwanese EFL 12th grade male students' reading comprehension in English. The results indicated when students' learning styles were unknown, there was no difference showing which reading method was better than the other. When reading an easy passage, the high auditory learners performed significantly better in the Oral Reading Group than in the Silent Reading Group. For the low visual learners, the oral reading was their better choice than the silent reading on the difficult reading passage. For other learning style preferences, the performance of reading comprehension in oral reading and silent reading would not be too much different. This study created a high reliability survey instrument which can tell students' Visual and Auditory learning styles by asking only six questions for each learning style.

Women and Oppression: A Feminist interpretation...
50,40 € *

The study is on New Testament feminist interpretation of 1Timothy 2:8-15. It seems the place of women in the churches today is very much influenced by how this passage is used. A careful reading of the passage seems to suggest a different perspective with regards to how women are perceived in the churches today. It appears women are as suggested by the passage, inferior to men. Although there is clear evidence of woman disciples during Jesus time, which Jesus treated equally as men, The passage seems to be silent of this view. The passage therefore seems to be echoing a male human being's views about woman which is androcentric. Moreover, the biblical reading of the creation stories also look biased in this passage. This book seek to interrogate 1Timothy 2:8-15 with the intent to redress patriarchal connotations in the passage which are oppressive to women. It is the argument of this book that women and men are equal and should occupy equal positions in church. An alternative interpretation of the passage which spells out Women and men authority as expressed in Christianity is welcome and healthy in today's relations.

Any Chainnan of the British Post Office dwells in the shadow of Rowland Hill, and, if he were an honest man, he probably from time to time, while singing the praises of Rowland Hill, as is his due, thinks a silent thought of sympathy for his predecessor Colonel Maberly, the head of the Post Office, the Champion of established orthodoxy, the leader of the Professionals, who had to endure the irresistible force of Hill's arguments combined with his skills as a pamphleteer, agitator, and political propagandist. My favorite passage of the book Royal Mail by Martin Daunton (1985) shows how much the Post Office of the day needed a Rowland Hill to challenge Colonel Maberly and all that he stood for. I quote from a passage describing how the Colonel, when he arrived at about 11:00 a.m. and while enjoying his breakfast, listened to his private secretary reading the morning's correspondence. Daunton records: The Colonel, still half engaged with his private correspondence, would hear enough to make him keep up a rumring commentary of disparaging grunts, "Pooh! stuff! upon my soul!" etc.

Was haben wir gesehen / What we have seen
27,00 € *

Yet another precious volume in his celebrated series of visual diaries, Was haben wir gesehen / What we have seen is all about people and places in the long and very convivial life of Robert Frank. Auspiciously opening and closing with the zoom on the dial of a clock tower, serving as a reminder of the silent but constant passage of time, the book is heavy with memories and pictures of old photographs. Like a leitmotif carrying us through the images, the word "souvenir" pops up under a magnifying glass positioned on a French text as a reading device. Frank's house in Mabou is once again portrayed as a popular hideaway for people like Jack Kerouac, Gerhard Steidl, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and his family members. Frank's visual diaries constitute an important part of both his later work and the ongoing art of the photobook.
