Large groups of starlings fly in murmurations, making coordinated changes en masse; reacting togetheralmost instantaneously, they behave as critical systems. In nature, a system composed of severalelements in dynamic interaction becomes critical when all of those elements influence each other. Whenthat critical state is reached, the system can bifurcate, that is to say it suddenly changes its behaviour:this is what happens during an avalanche or the formation of crystals. In the case of murmurations, themovements of each bird are influenced by those of all the other birds. The starlings have no leader; it isas if they are all interconnected, permitting perfect coordination of the whole. After many collaborations in duo (with Émile Parisien, Michel Portal, Michael Wollny, FrançoisSalque) or within his quintet, Living Being, Vincent Peirani wanted to embark on another form oforchestration, that of the trio. With the Italian guitarist Federico Casagrande, who has been living in Paris for many years, andZiv Ravitz, an Israeli drummer who lives in New York, he forms a hybrid trio, guitar, drums, accordion,in which each musician can take the place of another, to become, by turns, a soloist, a rhythmist, acolourist, and so on.This cosmopolitan formula explores all kinds of music: enigmatic, oneiric, electronic, explosive, colourful, even silent. Everything is permitted and left to the free will of each of the three protagonists.Like the Joker - not so much the fictional super-villain of American comic books as the playingcard found in most card decks (the Joker can replace any other card and also be the highest trump) -all three of them have an equal and at the same time complementary role, and they are sometimes inopposition, unpredictable... Contradiction then adds to the trio´s soundscape, enriching it even furtherand affirming its originality.

Our guide gathers the group in certain places and tells us about the beavers and how they live, but the rest of our communication is silent, using only hand gestures. This is a beaver safari in true wilderness, where we have never met another person during the trip. Welcome into nature!

The Annapurna conservation Area embraces the entire Annapurna Himal. From valley floor (below 1000m) to the summit of Annapurna region you can move between the lush subtropics and the austere alpine climbs in a matter of days, witnessing the effect of altitude, topography and climate on life. Trails along the lower valleys usually weave through land that has been cleared for agriculture, dipping occasionally into the remaining shady broadleaf forests. Upstream, you enter the spectacular rhododendron forests, their gnarled pinkish limbs festooned with epiphytic ferns and orchids. In spring witness the blooms, from red to pink to white, depending on altitude. As the trail takes you away from the incessant roar of the river the sounds of bird life, perhaps the yelp of a barking deer, become audible. The dry and open conifer forests, usually blue pine, can be uncannily silent save for the wind whistling through the canopy.
BUSTER KEATON (The General) is at the peak of his slapstick powers in The Cameraman—the first film that the silent-screen legend made after signing with MGM, and his last great masterpiece. The final work over which he maintained creative control, this clever farce is the culmination of an extraordinary, decadelong run that produced some of the most innovative and enduring comedies of all time. Keaton plays a hapless newsreel cameraman desperate to impress both his new employer and his winsome office crush as he zigzags up and down Manhattan hustling for a scoop. Along the way, he goes for a swim (and winds up soaked), becomes embroiled in a Chinatown Tong War, and teams up with a memorable monkey sidekick (the famous Josephine). The marvellously inventive film-within-a-film setup allows Keaton’s imagination to run wild, yielding both sly insights into the travails of moviemaking and an emotional payoff of disarming poignancy.
